I now have access to a GoPro camera and strapped it onto my wrist yesterday while taking a couple short runs just to see how it’d work. The water wasn’t the best and the stretches of calm water were short due to there being several tubers in the area, but I did get a little footage.

And in keeping with the Pearl Jam backing music in the videos, here’s a video Ron Scarpa’s Watersports made a while back. Great footing and a great song.

Fun times had by all at RSWS! [video]

The hardest part I have about watching these video made by people at the barefoot schools is looking at the water. First, they are in Florida so there’s Gators in the water. Up here in Wisco, all we have are some real big fish, but nothing that’ll bite an arm or leg off. That bit about the Florida water scares me just a little bit. Probably not enough to keep me out if it, but it’ll definitely be in the back of my mind when I’m in it.

Second, 95% of the water is butter in these videos and the rest is still really, really calm. I see water like that maybe once a year and IF I’m lucky, I’ll be the only boat out there. 50% of the time, the water I foot in, most people won’t. 25% of the time the water would be nice except for the 5 or 6 other boats making waves as the pull their kids tubing. 15% of the time there is good water and only one or two other boats. The other 10% of the time, the water is rough enough where even I won’t try to foot.

Off topic… A man is in trouble from Australian authorities for spending the day water skiing with his son on the Victoria River. The authorities have an issue with it because he wasn’t using a boat. He was towing his son with a helicopter.

A quote from the article…

Blooby nanny state. For gods sake get a life or get back under your rock you bunch of kill joy grannies. Piss off and let people be themselves, get a life or take the next plane out of here. Wankers.

I found this story via Slashdot. Read the full story here (it even has a little bit of video). I’m sure the creative writers over at The CRB will come up with a witty article about this.

Wondering what this might look like? Click here.

Well, it’s official. The UW-Madison Water Ski Team can do more than just the traditional 3-event skiing… they know how to barefoot too! This video features some pretty good footing in your typical wetsuits, some very brightly colored wetsuits, some drysuits, a speedo (unfourtunately) and cowboy boots, and even some not so bright people that don’t realize the importance of a wetsuit. Granted, there isn’t anything major and they’ve done their best to pixelate out some parts, but you probably don’t want to have this up on your screen at work. You’ve been warned.

The video also features a classic water skiing song that I previously mentioned on this site.

Invasion of the Barefooting Mutants [video]

Yes, this was stolen of the Creaky Rowboat site, but we serve different portions of the skiing world.

Also, I know I’ve been a bit absent lately. With the end of summer, the end of fall, and the boat being winterized, I’ve been a bit depressed. But I did get a dose of skiing in just this past weekend at Project Snowflake (that’d be me in the 3-high pyramid on the right side). I’ve a got a few other story ideas for the upcoming weeks that have been cluttering up my bookmarks toolbar and inbox, so stay tuned.

Videos of people barefooting in ditches continue to make the rounds. This video is from March of 2009, so it isn’t new, or related to the current flooding issues in southern Wisconsin, but it’s still fun to watch people do crazy, stupid things. I don’t recommend trying this at home (but if you do, send the video my way) since it truly is very dangerous. Enjoy…

One of my regular readers and contributors, SacFooter (229 videos and counting on YouTube), recently had the opportunity to foot with David Small out at Diablo Shores in Brentwood, CA after their regional tournament. David stuck around for a few days to do some clinics and SacFooter attended one of them. His comments about David: “Super Cool, GREAT instructor and a lot of fun to be around.”

And As SacFooter always does, he shot a lot of video and put together this exclusive video for Tales from the Foot of David Small doing some footing. It features all 3 primary barefoot events with a whole lot of tricks, some solid slaloming and some inverted jumps.
